Sitecore Hackathon 2020
The 2020 Sitecore Hackathon is a free, online, community driven event organized by Akshay Sura and supported by Sitecore. (Shout out to Pieter, Mark, and Tamas.) Teams that have signed up by 6 pm EST on February 14, 2020 have the opportunity to take part. Eligible teams will have 24 hours to build and submit a Sitecore module that best implements the idea for the Hackathon, as determined by our panel of judges. The window runs from Friday February 28th 2020 at 8 PM EST to Saturday February 29th 2020 at 8 PM EST. The ideas will be announced an hour before the Hackathon starts on February 28th. We chose the date so that the announcements could be made at SUGCON EU 2020 in Budapest.
Ideas for the hackathon
- Sitecore Meetup Website. In recent events the Meetup.com site began charging for registering and hosting meetings, along with other features that used to be free. Many of the Sitecore User Groups rely on Meetup.
- Sitecore Marketplace Website. The Marketplace was once the destination where popular modules were showcased to the community. Consider the ways modules can be shared and installed.
- Sitecore Hackathon Website. This idea is sooo meta. Several years have passed with the current version, and it is in need of a refresh.

The teams
Results
First place went to XTeam. Their module takes the latest Sitecore 9.3 components and directs them toward meeting the core needs of the Sitecore Marketplace website with minimal overhead. GitHub project.
Second place went to KATSU! Their solution enhances the current Marketplace website by letting Sitecore developers and the community install packages directly from the Sitecore instance. GitHub project.
Third place went to Already Tired. Their repository provides a sample that shows how to structure the Hackathon submissions. GitHub project.
Entry submission requirements
All teams must submit the following as part of their entry, on or before the end of the Hackathon on Saturday February 29th 2020 at 8 PM EST. The modules should be based on Sitecore 9.3, and if you are using commerce it should be Sitecore Experience Commerce 9.3.
- A deploy package (.zip) or a Sitecore module install package, with proper installation instructions.
- The module code in the Git source repository provided. We look at cleanliness of code, commenting where necessary, code structure, and standard coding standards and naming conventions.
- A precise and clear installation instructions document (1 to 2 pages).
- Module usage documentation in the Readme.md file on the Git repository provided to you (2 to 5 pages): the module's purpose, its Sitecore Hackathon category, how the end user uses it, screenshots, and so on.
- A 2 to 10 minute video explaining the module's functionality, as a link to a YouTube video: what problem was solved, how you solved it, and the end result.
Prizes
The winning teams each receive a $200 Amazon gift card per team member, for a total of $600 for a three person team. The Amazon gift cards are emailed to the addresses on file no later than 10 days after the winning team is announced. If Amazon gift cards are not available in the region, alternate arrangements will be made. We will showcase your company logo or your team photo on this website. No purchase necessary.
